Project Scoping
Every home and every space is unique, and it can be difficult to envision the opportunity each presents. We work together to understand your needs and goals and to see what's possible within your space.
We start with a targeted questionnaire to glean an understanding of how you use your home, your plans for the future, and your general design preferences.
We then meet on-site to brainstorm together on options to meet your goals. This is the fun part, where we collectively dream about the possibilities.
We then take accurate measurements of your space and create a floor plan. This as-built floor plan is essential as starting point for understanding design options, scoping rough material costs, and communicating details of your space to contractors and tradespeople.
We finally review your answers from our intake questionnaire as well as insights gleaned from our on-site meeting, and we create a comprehensive scope of work to clearly communicate your project goals. Accurate definition is extremely important in helping to assure that contractors understand your goals, your expectations, and cost targets.
Project Guidance
Not sure how to tackle specific elements of a project that you want to do yourself? Are you looking to hire people for your project but want to make sure that things are done right and to code? Do you just have some quick questions about what’s possible and the associated complexity and cost?
I’m available to assist so that you can feel confident about undertaking the build yourself or explaining and auditing any work that you hire out.
Know the right questions to ask
One of the most challenging aspects of any construction project is knowing the right questions to ask to make sure that you’ve got the right people for the job.
A beautiful outcome doesn’t necessarily mean a quality build. As they say, the devil is in the details. Often what’s beneath all that beautiful tile work or new window that was replaced is more important than what you can see with your eyes. It’s these hidden details that, if not done right, will cause headaches in a few years. You want to make sure that things are done right to protect your investment.
We will provide you with a list of questions to ask as you conduct interviews with your tradespeople. We tell you why these questions are important, and highlight the responses that you should expect to hear. The goal isn’t to trick anyone - it’s simply to assure that the labor you employ on your project has awareness and competency in key areas critical to the success of your project. Discussing these desires up front will help to align expectations so that you can proceed with confidence and get the outcome that you deserve.
